Sitting in Darkness: Americans in the Philippines
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (September, 1984)
Average review score:

sitting in darkness helped me see the lightTruly a wonderful book...more like 2 or 3 books in one. It traces the early life of Funston..worthy of a book on its own but none out there that I can find. if you like the adventurous explorer scholarly type this is the man. Kind of a Richard Burton character...no silly... not the actor. Then it traces the history of the rebel movement at the turn of the century with the focus on Aguinaldo's movements in Northern Luzon. And finally it traces the author and his merry band as they retrace the steps of Funston in his bid to capture Aguinaldo in the early 1980's. So, in short if you are a student of history...READ IT!. If you like adventure or war stories...READIT! if you like drama...READ IT! If you know someone in the philippines...READ IT! I really had no idea of what happened over there or what role the usa had played over there. I don't think it was even mentioned in school. A real eye opener. Uhh, can you tell i liked it?

Song of Yvonne
Published in Paperback by Cellar Book Shop (August, 1991)
Average review score:

A young Filipina's view of life under the Japanese. This book later became "When the Rainbow Goddess Wept". It
is similar to Amy Tan's books; however, it was published
earlier and is from the Filipino point of view.
This enjoyable book is a fictionalized account of a young
Filipina (Yvonne) telling of her experiences just before
and during the trying times of the Japanese occupation of
the Philippines. By writing in the past from the mind of
a child, the author creates a floating, dream-like clarity
that captures something of the uniqueness and charm of
Filipino culture and spirit.

Southeast Asia Tropical Fish Guide: Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Andaman Sea
Published in Hardcover by Odyssey Classics (March, 1996)
Average review score:

It`s a Wonderfull BookI am just sixteen years old,but a big fish and marine life entusiast. I think this is one of the best books on tropical reef fishes ever written. When I received this book on the holidays,I was incredibly happy. Even though I recognized many of the species, there was some new and many new views of species I`d already knew. It covers all kinds of fish, from sharks to anemonfishes. And the colour of them are the most striking I`ve ever seen on animals. My favorite chapter is probably the first one, about sharks & rays. In second to it,there are the Scorpionfish and the Moray Eel chapter, although the angelfishes are the most beautifull fishes, the sharks are the coolest and most fascinating. At all,I will give it an high rate and I am a great fan of the author,Helmut Debelius, who has made many other great fish books which I also own,but this one is the best! But I would like if it was a little bit longer (a book of 450 pages would have been good)and have covered a little more about the behaviour of the fishes, and their reaction to divers, showing additional photos.

Triumph in the Philippines (United States Army in World War II)
Published in Hardcover by Government Printing Office (June, 1978)
Average review score:

A Must For "Heirloom Lobrary"This is one of several "Green Books" that gave me specific information on my father's activities in WW II. The book provides the authoritative source for the specific actions that took place in the Phillipines.
Each of the "Green Books" that cover areas my father was at are now part my "Heirloom Library" on his military history, that I plan to pass on to my son and granchild.
If you are a serviceman from the Philippines action, you should have this book as a tribute to yourself. Your family and friends should have and read this to understand why my generation, and laters, owe so much to you.
This book is particularly pertinent to my "Heirloom Library" since my grandson is half Filipino.

United States Army in World War 2, War in the Pacific, Fall of the Philippines
Published in Hardcover by Government Printing Office (November, 1998)
Average review score:

Highly Recommended!!!Dr. Louis Morton's THE FALL OF THE PHILIPPINES is the backbone of all books books written about the 1st Philippine Campaign of the Second World War. Well researched and documented, Morton was able to blend historical, personal, political and official military records in creating his work. No wonder it is the official US military history about the defeat and surrender on one of the largest US Army command in the Pacific.
Morton's book also gives a lot of emphasis on Military Operations in the Philippines. Among them are the North Luzon Force, The South Luzon Force, WPO III, the Withdrawal to Bataan and Corregidor, the Surrender, the operations of the Visayas and Mindanao Forces and the 14th Japanese Imperial Army. The books contains a lot of maps, diagrams, table of organizations and photographs.
A must have for those readers or researchers who would like to seek knowledge and answers about one of the greatest defeat American Arms has ever suffered.
